Protective Efficiency of Pterocarpus erinaceus Leaves Extract in Carbon-tetrachloride-induced Hepatic and Hematological Injuries in Rats

Aims: Chemical toxicity is one of the major leading causes tissues injuries, which impair tissue’s ability to maintain normal physiological functions. Pterocarpus erinaceus a medicinal plant use as traditional remedy for treatment several disorders associated with injuries. This study therefore aimed at investigating protective efficiency leaves extract in carbon-tetrachloride-induced hepatic and hematological injuries rats.
 Materials Methods: Leaves erinaceous after collection were air-dried pulverized. It was extracted methanol methanolic extracts used. Acute hepatoprotective studies against CCl4 conducted. Rats grouped into; Group 1: Normal control (liquid paraffin, vehicle 1ml.kg), 2: Negative (received 1ml/kg CCl4), 3: Positive +100ml/kg Silymarin), 4-6: Extract treated rats + varied doses Extracts 100, 200, 400mg/kg body weight rats). The done daily via oral means 14 days.
 Results: results acute showed safe LD50 greater than 5000mg/kg weight. reveals able ameliorate by minimizing damage tissues. Histological rats’ cells further unveils severity CCl4-mediate architectural damage.
 Conclusion: possess components tissue-protective properties hence need harness it utilization.
